William H. Herndon, Abraham Lincoln’s Law Partner, Historical Marker
In 1818, William H. Herndon was born in the house at 203 South Main St in Greensburg. He was a anti-slavery advocate and was Abraham Lincoln’s law partner from 1844-1861. The house at 203 South Main may be viewed from the street only and the historical marker may be viewed any time.

Cumberland Trace Historical Marker
Pioneer traveled westward across Kentucky on this offshoot of the Wilderness Road. Greensburg was settled along this trail.

Established in 1794, Greensburg features many historic buildings, such as the old Presbyterian Church and log cabin. Be sure to see the Old Courthouse that was built in 1802. The town has some unique features, such as the foot bridge that connects the public square to the historic L&N Railroad Depot. Downtown has been designated a National Historic District.

Driving Tour of Historical Markers
This self-guided driving tour begins at the Old Courthouse and proceeds through the town and county. Green County has many historical markers that have been placed by the Historical Society.

Foot Bridge at Courthouse Square
The depot, which was built for the L&N Railroad in the early 1900’s, is connected to the public square by a 445-foot long, 40 foot high foot bridge. It is one of Kentucky and Green County’s unique features

General Hobson Gravesite
This is the gravesite of General Edward Henry Hobson (1825-1901), who was captured with his entire command near Cynthiana, Ky by General John Hunt Morgan. Hobson family members are also buried at this site of early Green County graves.

Glover’s Station
The most imposing structure on the public square is this building constructed for a firm that was established in 1828. It was built in 1900 and is still in near-original condition. The two-story building was formerly a department store with a manual elevator that is no longer in use but can be seen. Glover’s Station carries a wide variety of antiques and collectibles

Green County Old Courthouse
One of the oldest public buildings still standing in Kentucky, the courthouse was built in 1802 and was in use for 135 years. It is the oldest courthouse west of the Allegheny Mountains

Lincoln’s Mentor Historical Marker
Mentor Graham is credited with providing Abraham Lincoln’s formal education. He held classes at the Greensburg Academy from 1818 until the mid 1820’s.

Long Hunter’s Camp Historical Marker
This marker designates the site where Daniel Boone was alone and surprised by a party of Long Hunters in 1771.

Mount Gilead Baptist Church
This early 19th Century church is built on the site of Long Hunters Encampment (1768-1770). It is the oldest church in Green County and is one of the oldest in the state.

Old Water Works Building and Museum/Nature Conservancy
Constructed by W.P.A. in the 1930’s style of progressive architecture, this building served as the water treatment plant. It now houses interpretive information about Green River and is the home of the Kentucky Waterways Alliance.

American Legion Park
Bring your canoe or other small river craft to this park that has an entry point to Green River. Play a game of softball or baseball, go for a hike on the walking trail, or just relax with a picnic. The picnic area has grills.

Bass, catfish and bluegill are in abundance on the Green River. Canoes, row boats and small motor boats are permitted.

Canoes, row boats and small motorized boats are permitted on Russell Creek. There are no public access ramps. Fish for bass, catfish and bluegill.
