Subject: ISO Lower rating for Property Insurance
Message: City of Greensburg Residents Should See Lower Property Insurance Premiums Due to New Lower Rating The City of Greensburg announced today that its Public Protection Classification has been lowered to a Class 5 by the Insurance Services Office. • Greensburg, KY, April 30, 2007: The City of Greensburg in conjunction with the Greensburg Fire Department, Greensburg/Green County 911 and Greensburg Utilities are pleased to release the report from ISO (Insurance Services Office, Inc.), which lowers the City’s Public Protection Classification from a class 6 to a class 5. ISO is the leading rating service to the property and casualty insurance industry. Most insurers use the PPC classifications when underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties. According to Mayor Cheatham this has been the culmination of a year long effort by the Fire Department, the utility departments, the City Council and 911 to upgrade our equipment, training and water system. Mayor Cheatham went on to say that “The resulting classification should lower the cost for property insurance for City residents by as much as 10%, depending on the insurance company.” ISO had not reviewed the City’s rating in over twenty years and when first evaluated in early 2006 ISO had recommended an increase in the rating to a class 7. “After several lengthy meetings with ISO and the various departments involved, our rating was returned to the existing class 6; but we discovered that with some improvements in our Fire Department training and equipment, along with upgrades to our water system we had a chance to get our classification lowered to a five; resulting in lower insurance cost to our residents” according to Mayor Cheatham. “I want to thank Chief Lawrence Gupton, Chief Bill Lile, Todd England, Ron Jones and Roger Skaggs for their efforts in making this goal a reality. They put in a lot of extra time and effort and should be commended.” Mayor Cheatham added. We encourage you to talk to with your property insurance to see how this change may effect your premiums for your property insurance.
